Mechanical question: how to flip to a page number(in a book)

Since we have now have a few hundred regular visitors, I was wondering if any of them happened to be from a mechanical background.  Like maybe someone who has built the rubber roller things that grab pages in a printer?   My question is whether anyone knows of an approach to flipping through pages one at a time.  Post if you know it! (or just have some ideas)
