As posted elsewhere: The ESP8266 is 32-bit and runs at 80 Mhz, which is plenty. (And pretting amazing for ~$2.) SSL is in its SDK. So the ESP8266 does run SSL. While the there is a thread about getting this running that is rather long, ultimately the issue was closed and people report success -- writing: "OK, took me some hours, but it is all ready now, SSL works like a charm, enjoy it." (but this is about SSL). It is generally possible to do SSH over SSL following any number of Internet tutorials. I'd be curious if anyone has gotten this specific setup working! Since this is at the intersection of Arduino and Raspberry Pi, I'd love if you would post an update to this thread for reference. (Though I haven't found anyone doing SSH directly from ESP8266.)
